Chain Load Binders
When it comes to securing loads chain load binders also known around the professional cargo industry as chain boomers, load binders, or transport chain binders are one of the best ways to ensure your cargo remains safely secured by using grade 70 transport chain.
There are two main different types of chain binders with one being Lever Release Style Load Binders and the other being Ratchet Load Binders. The main difference between the two types of chain binders is the way that they are tightened and secured in place. Lever uses more hand strength, but has fewer parts and is much quicker and easier to maintain. The Ratchet style requires less physical strength, is safer to use, and has become the new style of choice for professionals.
Ultimately the choice is up to the driver and which style they prefer to use. One of the benefits of using chain load binders is that the hooks on each of the load binders are designed to tighten a different size of chain to give you flexibility. For example, our 3/8-inch load binders can also secure a 5/16-inch transport chain depending on the combination and size of the chain that you are using for your application needs.
When selecting the ideal chain binder make sure to consider which chain binder fits the chain you are going to be using the most or you may need to purchase several different styles depending on your cargo control needs. Also, consider the overall weight of the cargo you will be securing and how many chains you will need to stay safely secured and in compliance with rules and regulations from the DOT and FMSCA.

Lever Release Style Load Binders
Lever-style binders can also be called snap binders, lever boomers, or chain boomers and are an alternative design to traditional ratchet load binders. Lever-style load binders include an over-center lever that helps secure the load with one smooth pull. Lever binders do require more hand strength to use than traditional ratchet load binders but can secure your cargo in place faster.
Our Lever Style Load Binder works with either a 5/16 grade 70 transport chain or a 3/8 inch grade 70 transport chain and is made from a heavy-duty metal construction. As long as you don’t exceed the safe working load limit of lever-style load binders they are a great addition to any flatbed and can last a very long time due to the durability of this product.
Lever binders provide quick tensioning with fewer moving parts which makes them easier to install and unload. However, they can also require more physical strength and care when handling them due to the sudden recoil when unloading. Due to this ratchet load binders have become the more popular choice between the two chain binders as they are less dangerous to use if used improperly.

You should never use a cheater bar when using lever load binders as it can create forces much higher than what the product and chain are rated for and could create a very dangerous situation for the driver, load, and others nearby.
Ratchet Style Load Binders
Ratchet Load Binders have become one of the safest and easiest-to-use chain binders for cargo securement applications and provide ultimate heavy-duty strength and load security. One of the main reasons they have become the go-to choice is unlike lever release load binders the odds of becoming injured, load damaged, or others around you injured is greatly reduced when releasing as they do not snap outwards.
Ratchet Load Binders come in many different working load limit ratings ranging from 5,400 lbs, 6,600 lbs, 9,200 lbs, or our heaviest duty 13,000 lbs WLL. When selecting the ideal ratchet load binder you will want to pair it with the matching Grade 70 transport chain and working load limit that works best for your cargo.
Each one of our ratchet load binders is stamped with the working load limit rating and the load capacity so that you know exactly what it is safely rated for at all times. Ratchet Style Load Binders work great with Grade 70 transport chains and can make for a quick and easy tightening. You should refer to our minimum number of chains recommended to secure a load against movement below to ensure you are using enough chains to keep your cargo in place and abiding by the FMCSA rules and regulations.
